The role of influential people

Koffi Annan says in Nairobi that climate changes is not a sci-fi matter: the importance here is not that another politician pronounce some few sentences about the need to fight against climate change. Fortunately, this starts to be very common. However, the importance here is that somebody called Koffi Annan, somebody well known all around the world, pronounces openly his concern and conviction about the importance to fight urgently against climate change. We do need high-influence politics and celebrities which show openly their big concern about the climate change issue. Another excellent example is Al Gore, with his already pretty known film "An inconvenient truth" (http://www.climatecrisis.net). Al Gore was about to be elected President of the so powerful EEUU. Many thousands of people follow closely this powerful man! His worries about the environmental destruction have already affected many hundred minds. Just have a look to public online forums about this movie. Even cinema or sport celebrities attitude towards environment may influence the behavior of numerous groups of teenagers!

I can talk a lot about climate change, about the atrocity we are committing against this world from my scientific point of view. However, my words will not unfortunately be widely spread. At most, I can imagine this blog to be read for many anonymous readers. However, names like Koffi Annan or Al Gore might influence lot of people. Can you imagine George Bush, tomorrow, pronouncing a speech about the urgency to fight against climate change? Well, I'm sure many American citizens would change their stubborn attitude towards an evidence. Unfortunately, in this battle we also find people like the same Bush or the irrational journalist Christopher Monckton, who intoxicate many other thousands of those who still are not sure about a scientific proved evidence: the current climate change is caused by anthropogenic activities.

We do need decision-makers to urgently be concerned about climate change. Voting them or not, that's your choice, but at the next elections I'll likely condition my support towards that one who is willing to combat climate degradation.
